Attentive Repetition Is the Thing

“Repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action, which makes it the architect of accomplishment.”_Zig Ziglar

If you have an audacious goal or vision, you may intend to adopt an overwhelming all-out assault to hit it. This is fine, if you are one of the very few with high-level of self-discipline required to follow through.

Still, I will caution you to rethink because of many unsatisfactory results that usually follow such an approach. As one writer comments, ‘the farther we aim for the stars, the harder it is for us to get off the couch.’

Therefore, I am suggesting you consider a surer approach to goal attainment, which is all about starting small and then repeating the basics while learning and improving along the way.

Indeed, repetition works. If we consistently put in the work and learn from our shortcomings, we will eventually achieve our audacious ambitions.

The truth about having a goal is that we can’t immediately control its attainment but we can immediately control the action we should take right now. And if we take such right actions consistently, we will steadily move toward our ambitious goal.

When you view your vision like this, then you will understand why setting up a system for putting in your work is more important than setting up a goal.

In other words, after you have written down your goals, focus less on the goal going forward. Instead focus on the repetitions that must precede the realization of that goal.

You see, the great masters don’t become great overnight, they do so by consistently striving to be better at their craft each day. In the words of Will Durant, an author of ‘the Lessons of History,’ “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

Without repetition, all audacious goals would eventually amount to nothing.

Therefore, I say that positive repetition is not just the main thing, it is the only thing you need to ensure daily progress and ultimately big success.
