To start with, let’s consult the book of meaning for a precise definition of integrity.
Encarta dictionary defines it as “the quality of possessing and steadfastly adhering to high moral principles or professional standards.”
The main thing to note here is the part about possession of morality as good character has little to do with what we say but a lot to do with what we do.
To possess integrity means doing the right things in a consistent pattern. In essence, integrity means choosing to practice our values rather than simply professing them.
If we predominantly act with integrity, then we have a good chance of succeeding in our relationships with people. If not, it will be very difficult to have lasting relationships with responsible people in our lives, personally and professionally.
Become a Person of Integrity
Now, I dare you to consider making integrity the foremost principle in your life.
And to do that, first ask yourself if you are currently a person of integrity.
If yes, wonderful. Still, there’s always room for improvement in matters of wisdom and growth.
If not, don’t run yourself down. Instead, try to re-examine yourself critically and then resolve to start making improvements one step at a time.
You see, the importance of integrity cannot be over-emphasized since moral force remains the sustaining element behind true success in business and in the society.
It is no wonder then that an American lawyer and author, Arlen Specter does assert: “There is no higher value in our society than (that of) integrity.”
