Habit of Delay

"The best way to deal with procrastination is to postpone it.”_Tony Robbins

Procrastination is a serious problem!

Though, it may initially appear to be trivial at the moment but it is cumulatively the ultimate human weakness in so many ways.

For starters, let’s defined the concept.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines it as delaying decisions, “when early action would have been preferable.”

Procrastination usually involves ignoring an unpleasant, but more critical task, in favour of another one which is far easier to do or a little more pleasant to handle.

This is sometimes okay and sometimes not. But potential tragedy beckons when procrastination becomes a habit. When this happens, it makes us not only less useful to others but it can also turn us into an enemy of our own progress.

How to Tackle Procrastination

To tackle the disease, choose to commit to important tasks by making taking action your default position.

So identify the things you need to get done every day and allocate the time you need to complete them.

In the words of Robert Collier, the author of ‘Secret of the Ages’: “If you procrastinate when faced with a big difficult problem... break the problem into parts, and handle one part at a time.”

In other words, make it look smaller by breaking it down into manageable portions. This will help you to tackle your work efficiently and become far more productive.

You might also identify unpleasant consequences of avoiding the task by asking yourself what will happen if you fail to act on time?

For some of us, understanding the consequences of delaying something can prod us to get started at the right time.

Finally, understand that if we setup our lives to prioritize important activities, then we can protect ourselves against the deadly habit of delay.
