Carefully Designed Routine Is a Force Multiplier

“The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.”

Mike Murdock

In long run, our success is a direct result of what we achieve every day and what we can achieve every day is a function of our own daily routine.

Therefore, creating a well-planned routine based on our goals is one of the best self-investment we would ever make.

Yes! It is so because a good routine enables us to function at our daily best with as little friction as possible. It is a tool that generates the forceful momentum that will carry us to our desired destination with relative ease.

To create a routine and follow it means we are living by design rather by default. And living by design means we are acting on our priorities rather than the other way round.

To create a routine and follow it means we are making use of procrastination by putting off wasteful and low value activities until after we have performed our core duties. And it also means we are making a smart use of our precious but limited resource of willpower.

With all these benefits, it is no wonder then that an Australian former world champion runner, Robert de Castella had to assert:

“You must have a training routine so that what you do happens automatically.

And he went further to explain: “If I got up in the morning and thought about going for a run there would often be a number of possible arguments against it. The thing is to get out and run. Later you can wonder whether you should have or not.”

A good routine play an important role in the life of true champions. It is what sustains the positive and consistent daily patterns, that help them maximize their potentials despite the challenge of common human weakness that tends to hold everyone back.

If we are what we repeatedly do, then we are creatures of habit. So, we need to make sure we are becoming a better version of ourselves by disciplining our daily actions for good.

You see, when the routine is loose and undisciplined poor results are inevitable. But when the routine is carefully designed, we would be performing at the best possible level in key areas of our lives.

In other words, you should experiment first to find out what works for you best, then ensure that your best day becomes your normal daily routine. This is the making of a winner in all walks of life.

In the words of an American publisher and author, William Feather: “The big things that come our way are the fruit of seeds planted in the daily routine of our work.”

Finally, take time out to design your own day for optimal performance and stick to following it. If you ask me, ‘why am I saying that’, I’ll reply that it is the ultimate secret of super-successful people whom we all admire; they’ve all learned to do every day what most of us do once in a while.

Always remember: the secret of your future success is hidden in your everyday routine.
