Our Paradigm is a Function of Our Habits

“As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves.” Mahatma Gandhi

Many of us want to get better at something. Most of us desire to have more of something.  And none of us is absolutely perfect in everything. Thus, no matter the degree of our achievements, there is always room for anyone to improve.

Therefore, all of us have a job to do to make our results better than they now are. And every day, we have a fresh opportunity to be, to have and to do just that.
In this direction, let’s take the words of the author of ‘The ABC of Success,’ Bob Proctor very close to our hearts. He says, “To change our results, paradigm is all we need to change.”

You may ask, ‘What is a paradigm?’

According to Bob Proctor, “Paradigm is simply a multitude of habits.” He came to this meaning after intensive study of the subject. And the iconic Benjamin Franklin explains further in mathematical terms. He said: "Your net worth to the world is usually determined by what remains after your bad habits are subtracted from your good ones."

In other words, people of high positive net worth in personal habit equation are operating with a strong paradigm while people of low positive net worth in personal habit equation are operating with a weak paradigm.

But people of low negative net worth in personal habit equation are operating with a very weak (or bad) paradigm but those with a high negative net worth in personal habit equation are the dregs of the society.

In addition, Bob Proctor emphasizes that to ignore the power of paradigm in influencing our judgments is to put our entire future at risk. By this, he means: whether we like it or not weak paradigm will continue to produce poor results until it is consciously altered and strong paradigm will continue to produce pleasant result until it is also changed. So we must do our best to make and keep our paradigm strong and wholesome.

In all cases, our paradigm is what defines our reality; it is what drives our results.

For those of us in need of better results in any aspects of our lives, we only need to alter some of our weak habits to fortify our paradigm. And the way to it is to purposefully recondition ourselves for good by getting out of our own way, by adopting the right habits; the fine habits that can help us with what we truly want to have.

As the author of ‘Cosmic Ordering Guide,’ Stephen Richards asserts, “You are essentially who you create yourself to be, and all that occurs in your life is the result of your own making.”  The great gift from the Creator is that we have the privilege of choice as human beings to remake ourselves at any moment in time. This why Ben Franklin equally says “life is plastic” and within each of us is the power to mould ourselves to the desirable form that we yearn.

Making this change is perhaps the best use of our precious personal choice as the as Chinese philosopher, Confucius once declared: “He who conquers himself is the mightiest warrior.”

To conclude, I have a question for you:

What one limiting habit will you decide to break today to further strengthen the positive force of your own paradigm?

Please do something about that because it is the best way to become a stronger version of yourself as Ben Franklin answered when he was asked:  “Who is strong?” He replied: “He that can conquer his bad habits.”
